Circle Tour &
U.S. Entry Information
Circle Canada’s Quetico Provincial Park
and the famed U.S.
Boundary Waters Canoe Area for the Ultimate Cross-Border Snowmobile
Adventure.
The Cross Border Circle Tour is a self-guided, 3-5 day
tour encompasses over 400 miles of pristine wilderness and awesome trails!
Novice and experienced snowmobilers alike have the freedom to plan their own
itinerary and experience friendly communities and quality services along the
way. Usually, you can ride for miles and not see another sled! Now,
that’s an awesome ride! Visit www.atikokansnoho.com/circleTour
for more information.
The only U.S.
customs office for entry into the U.S.A.
is at crane Lake, MN. As a result, if you would like to
complete the entire cross-border circle tour, it should be completed in a
counter-clockwise direction so that you can re-enter at the Crane Lake, MN
customs location.
When
snowmobiling in Ontario
it is mandatory to posses valid OFSC trails permit. If you will be
snowmobiling in Canada
more than once it is worthwhile to purchase a seasonal trail permit at $250.
($200 before December 1st). This trail permit buys you unlimited access to
over 25,000 miles of snowmobile trails with very little traffic…the
ultimate snowmobile experience. However, for short trips 7 day permits ($140)
and 3 day permits ($100) are also
available. Our trails are maintained by volunteers and the permit
dollars are circulated back into our trail system. For this reason it is
important that you buy where you ride.
If you
require a 7 or 3 day permit, the first resort you will pass on the
Canadian side of the tour (completing the tour in a counter-clockwise
direction) will be Northern Lights Lodge (807)
933-5025

permits are available here. (Gas, food, and lodging also available)
Please visit the Minnesota
DNR website for snowmobile trail permit information on the U.S
side of the tour
Visitors
from the U.S.
There
are a few things you need to know about entering Canada
from the U.S.
We maintain two trails that connect Canada
and the USA,
the L901M (formerly D113M) and L902M (formerly D112M) trails, they are
indicated on the Northwest Ontario Snowmobile Trail Map. If you plan to enter
Canada
using either of these trails, you will need to obtain a Remote Area Border
Crossing Permit from Canada Customs and Immigration. There is a U.S. customs office at Crane Lake, MN
(accessed by L901M, formerly D113M). Upon entering the U.S.A. at Crane Lake
you must show documentation that supports your citizenship. At this point in
time you do not require a passport to re-enter into the U.S. via Canada.
If
you choose to trailer your sled to the U.S/Canadian border, your entry point
into Canada is International Falls
in Fort Frances. There are video phones at International Falls as well, here you must show
documentation of your citizenship, therefore have your pieces of
identification ready.
